Animalistic Annihilation:  The Acts

After Pol Pot took over power of the Khmer Rogue, a communist guerrilla organization created by the former Prince of Cambodia, he decided to rid the country of all class distinctions.  He and the Khmer Rogue envisioned a Cambodia without cities, private property or money (all goods would have to be exchanged or bartered).  Because they envisioned this, they needed to completely change the society.  Those that Pot considered to be "non-valuable" were killed; this class included former government soldiers, those of ethnic and religious minorities, elderly and weak citizens, those that were perceived as intellectuals (this could be a simple as wearing glasses, a sign of intellect), and those that are thought to have had contact with the Vietnamese.

The most common method used in the massacre was deliberate starving and malnutrition.  Other methods were disembowelment, beatings and torture, and having nails hammered into the back of the victim's head.  About 1.7 million people were killed between the years of 1975 and 1979 using these methods.
