Cambodia's Background

  •  Cambodia's government type is multiparty democracy under a constitutional monarchy.
  • The Cambodian citizens were classified into groups by their race, religion, and ethnicity. Some of the groups included Lon Nol government soldiers, Buddhist monks, groups of people thought to have contact with Vietnamese, and ethnic and religious minorities.
  • Yes, symbols were used to characterized some of the Cambodia citizens. They made them wear black, yellow, purple, or green head scarves that way the soldiers know who they're killing. Later on they had those left wear blue to symbolize they still had to killed and the intelligent people wore glasses. All of the people wearing specific things were targeted to be killed.
  • The genocide stripped all citizens from the human rights completely. No one was allowed to be a part of any religious groups and no one was allowed to even preach religion. Everyone with a job, such as a doctor, lawyer, or teacher was not allowed to go to work, instead they were forced into labor. Factories, schools, and hospitals were shut down to make the citizens feel they as if they had zero civilization.
